About Ross
I was first drawn to art at a young age and was inspired by the late Peter Beadle of Invercargill. Walking past his studio on my way to school, I often stopped to admire his remarkable oil landscapes of Fiordland and the surrounding region. Those early moments sparked a fascination that has stayed with me throughout my life.
Although I studied art in college, attending art school didn’t feel possible at the time, and I began a career in hospitality instead. In recent years, however, I have rekindled my passion for painting. By studying the techniques of renowned artists and replicating works by the old masters, I have been able to accelerate my learning as a self-taught artist. I also take every opportunity to visit galleries and explore the work of local artists, which continually inspires me.
This journey has helped me develop a broad technical foundation as I move toward forming my own artistic style. I currently work primarily in acrylics and use only high-quality materials for all of my pieces.
Across both, Ross places strong emphasis on craftsmanship, material quality and long-term durability, producing works that are visually rich and made to be enjoyed for years to come.
I love the process of painting and the way paint can bring a canvas to life through my own interpretation of the world around us. By building layers of colour and texture, I can transform an idea into something tangible and unique, created from my imagination, from reference images, or from real-life inspiration.
